A free, family-friendly evening of stories
Monday, October 7, 2024, 6:00 p.m. at Kitchen Theatre Company
417 W. State St., Ithaca, NY
“Comedy, Puppets, and Fantastical Tales,” showcasing the work of Russian playwright, filmmaker, author, and puppeteer Arthur Groys, will be held at Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca, NY, on Monday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Middle schoolers and adults alike will enjoy Arthur’s antic, thought-provoking work. For many years he wrote and directed short comic films for Yeralash, Russia’s long-running children’s television program that attracted over 40,000 daily viewers, both children and adults. Arthur has also written books of comedic and fantastic poetry, sketches, stories, and novels for children and teenagers.
In April 2024, Arthur and his family arrived in Ithaca from Moscow by way of Israel. Arthur is an Artist Protection Fund Fellow hosted by Ithaca College and is the newest artist in residence at Ithaca City of Asylum—a nonprofit providing refuge for persecuted artists and supporting freedom of expression. Additional support for this Ithaca City of Asylum Voices of Freedom event is provided by Kitchen Theatre Company and faculty of Cornell’s Department of Performing and Media Arts. This program is made possible in part with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the office of the Governor and NYS Legislature, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.
Join us on October 7 for a sampling of Arthur’s puppetry, video, and stories, and for the conversation to follow. All ages welcome!
